A Boutique Hotel

Friends who know me are fully aware that I do not like to stay in a 2-star hotel not even a 3-star. Preferably 4-stars and above!

Don’t judge me because I’m someone who demands a hi-life. I have a thousand and one reasons to explain my stand.

Last year, I was away on a business trip to Sydney and my 3rd trip there. One of my colleagues has booked a boutique hotel where it is situated in the heart of the city.

The hotel is built with a taste of heritage. It has a generous marble and woodwork interior that creates an old charm that you will find it unique. Situated below the hotel is a micro-brewery which is a good place for chilling out after some business talk. Beer, Beer, Beer and more Beer… No wonder my colleague gave me the thumbs up for this hotel!

Nevertheless, this is my first impression of the frontage and it’s interior. I have yet to describe about “my room”. As far as I could recall, every room is decorated with a unique antique furnishing.

Look at this! This is “my room”. A room that is different from the rest. I guess.
I opened the door to the room. A sense of eeriness stimulates the goose bumps all over my body. This is strange. There are some things which I did not wish to talk about.

The room was dimmed. The bed was uncomfortable. The transmission of the television was bad. The toilet was unpleasant. Nothing seems comfortable for me. Not even an hour’s stay in the room. Thank goodness, I would be staying just for a night before heading home.

You saw it? You saw it?
The round mirror on the right hand corner of this photo?
This is the mirror that really freaked me. It was a mirror that was commonly used during the olden days. The last time when I came across a mirror like this was during my toddler years.
Imagined if there is a girl who is standing right in front of the mirror and combing her long hair. She is smiling at you sinisterly. I just can’t stop looking at that mirror. My imagination was running wild. I can’t stop. I can’t stop.

In the end, I decided to head to the city where my shopping spree began. I shopped till the shops closed. VERY unwilling to head back to the hotel! It was half past nine and I decided to head for the micro-brewery at the lobby. Sitting there alone watching a game of ruby. There were a few Aussie men who sat at my table. They started to entertain me. At least to keep myself occupied.

Time flew by and before I knew it, it was 0430 when I headed back to “my room” to pack up and head to the airport.

For that whole night, I had not been sleeping. The eerie feeling just forbade me to stay any longer. It was a horrible feeling though nothing has happened to me. This is the reason why am I such a fuzzy girl especially when choosing a hotel. I will not trade a ‘cheap’ hotel at the expense of my fear. Especially when I’m alone in a foreign land.

I’m sure by now, you are fully aware that I’m not going to pick this hotel on my next trip back to Sydney. The flight back to Singapore was marvelous. I found myself sleeping throughout the whole journey except “makan time”. I know I’m a glutton. So listen my friends, if you want to travel with me, make sure you pick a reasonable hotel at least up to my expectations, if not, you have to keep me company in the streets.

Bye for now…
